Get ready to wet your lines and soak up some sun on this awesome day trip around Panama's island gems. We're talking about Chamá, Taboguilla, and Taboga – some of the hottest fishing spots in the area. Our 31' Bertram is perfect for cruising these waters, giving you a comfy ride and plenty of room to land the big ones. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, this trip's got something for everyone.
We'll kick things off early, loading up the boat with all the gear you need for a full day of fishing. As we cruise out of the harbor, you'll get to soak in those killer Panama City views before we hit the fishing grounds. Depending on what's biting, we might start inshore, work the reefs, or head a bit further out. The beauty of this trip is its flexibility – we go where the fish are. You'll have a chance to try different techniques, from bottom fishing for snapper and grouper to trolling for mahi-mahi and bonito. And don't worry if you're new to this – our crew's always happy to show you the ropes.
We mix it up on this trip, using a variety of methods to put you on the fish. Inshore, we might use light tackle and live bait to target jack crevalle or sierra mackerel. These guys put up a great fight, especially on lighter gear. When we hit the reefs, we'll switch to bottom fishing with cut bait or jigs for snapper and grouper. If conditions are right and we spot some bird activity, we might break out the trolling gear for a shot at mahi-mahi or bonito. The key is being adaptable – fish don't read calendars, so we adjust our tactics based on what's working that day.

Jack Crevalle: These bruisers are like the bulldogs of the sea. They're not the prettiest fish out there, but man, do they fight. Jacks love to hang around structure and can be found year-round. When you hook one, hold on tight – they're known for powerful runs that'll test your drag and your biceps.
Sierra Mackerel: Fast and ferocious, sierra mackerel are a blast to catch. They're usually in the 2-5 pound range but punch above their weight class when it comes to fight. Look for them slashing through bait schools near the surface. They're most active in the cooler months but can be caught year-round with the right tactics.
Snapper: From the tasty mangrove snapper to the hard-fighting cubera, snappers are a staple of Panama's inshore fishing scene. They love structure, so we'll target them around reefs and rocky areas. The bite can be subtle, so stay alert – when you feel that tap-tap, it's time to set the hook!
Grouper: These bottom-dwelling brutes are every angler's dream. They're not the fastest fish in the sea, but they make up for it with raw power. When a big grouper decides to head back to its hole, you'd better be ready for a tug-of-war. We target them around reefs and wrecks, using heavy tackle to winch them up from the depths.
Mahi Mahi: Also known as dorado, these are some of the most beautiful fish you'll ever see. They're famous for their acrobatic jumps and color changes – a hooked mahi can go from electric blue to neon yellow in seconds. We usually find them offshore, often around floating debris or weed lines. They're fast growers and great eating, making them a favorite target for many anglers.
Pacific Bonito: Don't let their small size fool you – bonito are pound-for-pound some of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean. They're related to tuna and have the speed to prove it. We often find them in schools, chasing bait near the surface. When you find a school of bonito, it's non-stop action that'll leave your arms aching (in the best way possible).
False Albacore: These speedsters, also known as little tunny, are like mini torpedoes. They're not great for eating, but they more than make up for it with their blistering runs. False albacore often show up in the cooler months, providing some exciting light tackle action. When you see them busting bait on the surface, get ready for some of the fastest-paced fishing you've ever experienced.
Look, fishing's always an adventure – some days you limit out, other days the fish win. But one thing's for sure: spending a day on these waters is always worth it. Whether you're reeling in a trophy or just enjoying the scenery, this trip's got something for everyone. We provide the boat, gear, and local know-how – all you need to bring is your sense of adventure (and maybe some sunscreen). So what are you waiting for? Grab your spot on the Bertram and let's go find some fish. The Pearl Island Charter Co. is ready to show you the best of Panama's inshore fishing – book now and get ready for a day you won't forget!
