Species You'll Want to Hook

Best time to target them is during the dry season from December to April.

They're ambush predators, so we'll be working the edges of drop-offs and reef points. Live bait is key here – a big blue runner or bonito rigged up is like ringing the dinner bell. Peak season is May to August when they group up to spawn.

Broomtail Grouper: Don't let the name fool you – these aren't your average bottom-dwellers. Broomtails are aggressive and powerful, often coming up off the bottom to crush poppers or chase down jigs. They love rocky structure and can grow over 100 pounds. The real challenge is stopping them from diving back into their holes once hooked.
