Reel in Mahi Mahi & Sailfish 30 Miles Out

Get ready to chase some of the ocean's most exciting gamefish on our 8-hour offshore adventure. We're talking about targeting mahi mahi and sailfish in their prime habitat, 30 miles out where the big ones roam. This trip is the real deal for anglers looking to tangle with hard-fighting pelagics and maybe even land that fish of a lifetime.

    Trip Overview

From April through December, we run our most popular fishing trip of the rainy season. We'll be pushing out 30 miles to hit the legendary 20-fathom trench, where the mahi mahi and sailfish gather to feast. Our seasoned crew knows these waters like the back of their hand, and they're itching to put you on the fish. We'll be aboard the Intrepid 37', a top-notch vessel built for offshore runs and equipped with everything you need for a day of serious fishing.

    Trolling the Deep Blue

Once we reach the fishing grounds, we'll deploy a spread of lures and teasers designed to mimic the baitfish our target species can't resist. We'll be trolling - the go-to technique for covering water and enticing strikes from mahi mahi and sailfish. When the bite is really on, we might switch to live bait to seal the deal. Our crew will be on constant lookout for birds, debris, or any signs that point to fish below. When we spot that telltale ripple or flash of color, get ready for your reel to start screaming!

    Species You'll Want to Hook

Mahi Mahi: Also known as dorado or dolphinfish, these neon-colored speedsters are a favorite among anglers. They grow fast and fight hard, often putting on acrobatic displays as they try to throw the hook. Mahi can reach sizes over 50 pounds, though 15-30 pounders are more common. They travel in schools, so when you find one, there's a good chance more are nearby. The meat is excellent for the grill, making mahi a perfect catch-and-keep target.

Sailfish: The crown jewel of our offshore fishery, sailfish are the prize many anglers dream of. Known for their incredible speed (they can swim up to 68 mph) and their spectacular leaps, hooking into a sail is an unforgettable experience. These billfish can reach lengths of over 10 feet and weights exceeding 200 pounds. While we practice catch-and-release for sailfish to preserve the population, the photo ops with these majestic creatures are priceless.

What to Expect on the Water

A day targeting mahi mahi and sailfish is never dull. You might spend periods scanning the horizon, waiting for that moment when all hell breaks loose. Then suddenly, you're in the thick of it - reels singing, rods bending, and fish thrashing at the surface. It's a team effort out here, with everyone playing a role whether you're on the rod, clearing lines, or ready with the gaff (for mahi) or release tools (for sailfish). The excitement is contagious, and there's nothing quite like the rush of a double or triple hookup to get the adrenaline pumping.

    Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

This trip isn't just our best-seller for nothing. The combination of hard-fighting fish, the thrill of the open ocean, and the chance at landing a true trophy keeps folks coming back year after year. There's something special about being out there where the water turns that deep cobalt blue, knowing that any cast could result in the catch of a lifetime. Plus, our crew's expertise means you're not just fishing - you're learning techniques and tricks that'll up your game no matter where you drop a line.

    Top Catches This Season

While every trip is different, we've been seeing some monster mahi lately. Just last week, one of our groups landed a 45-pounder that put up a fight worthy of a marlin. On the sailfish front, we've had days where everyone on board got to experience the thrill of releasing one of these beautiful billfish. The action can be hot and heavy when conditions are right, and there's nothing quite like watching a sailfish light up in those electric blue hues as it dances across the surface.

    Gearing Up for Success

We provide all the fishing gear you'll need, from rods and reels to terminal tackle. Our equipment is top-of-the-line and well-maintained to handle the beating these fish can dish out. That said, don't forget to bring sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), some snacks and drinks, and a camera to capture the memories. A light jacket isn't a bad idea either, as it can get breezy out on the open water. And of course, bring your A-game and a positive attitude - sometimes the fish make you work for it, but that just makes the catch all the sweeter.

    Time to Book Your Spot

If you're itching to test your skills against some of the ocean's most exciting gamefish, this is the trip for you. With room for up to 10 anglers, it's perfect for a group of friends or even a corporate outing. Remember, we run this trip from April to December, but spots fill up fast - especially during peak mahi and sailfish seasons. Whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time chasing pelagics, our crew will make sure you have a day to remember. So what are you waiting for? Give us a call, lock in your date, and get ready for some rod-bending, drag-screaming action. The fish are out there, and they're calling your name!
